INTREODUCTION
Sankey tank is situated in the western part of Bangalore in the middle of the suburbs of Malleshwarm, Vyalikaval and Sadashiva Nagar.it is one of the ideal places to spend a relaxed day in Bangalore.Sankey
tank was constructed by Col. Richard Hieram Sankey (RE) of the Madras
Sappers Regiment, in 1882, to meet the water supply demands of
Bangalore.
HISTORY
sankey tank is one of the major water bodies that has played an
important role in maintaining the ecology and beauty of bangalore. a
500-year-old perennial water body, it was originally named after sir
richard sankey, former chief engineer of mysore.Sankey
tank was constructed by Col. Richard Hieram Sankey (RE) of the Madras
Sappers Regiment, in 1882, to meet the water supply demands of
Bangalore.
Sankey Tank is one of the major lakes of Bangalore. This artificial lake
is surrounded by a picturesque garden. The most exciting thing about
this lake is that during the winter season the lake is converted into the nesting grounds of a plethora of birds.
The tank has been recently renovated by the Karnataka State Tourism
Development Corporation. The surroundings are clean and well maintained.
The tank is a rich reserve of various species of fishes and aquatic
plants.
Visitors can enjoy boat rides in the water of the tank. The Karnataka
State Tourist Development Corporation maintains “ Boat
Club” at the Sankey Tank. The boat club has a large number of boats of
various kinds such as pedal boats, row boats, motor boats, etc. Visitors
can rent boats to enjoy a trip of the tank.
